  • Was interested what type of music people grew up with?

My dad got me into the 60’s music… Beatles, Yes, The Who, Bob Marley, Jimmy Hendrix, JJ Cale… while mum provided me with 80’s…Bruce Springstein, Dire Straights, The Moody Blues…”we’ve got to get out of this place…if it’s the last thing we ever do ……..…make a better life for me and u” that type of stuff.

Has it notable it influenced you??
Do you still listen to it??…Personally the music from the 60’s (and a bit of the 70’s) is still my favourite…can have that playing 24/7 (I love originality and emotion in my music)

Not necessarily talking about the stages you went through (eg; going from 2day fm music, to grunge to punk to techno etc…) but more what you were exposed to…

  • Alexmac, "We've gotta get out of this place" was first released by the Animals in 1965. You might be thinking of the Katrina and the Waves version . . .?

  • My dad was a Jazz man and that is what I grew up listening too.. that and hooked on classics

I think that's why I love techno so much... bring on the future tech jazz I say

  • Growing up I got classical piano and loud rock music in large doses... one of my 1st musical memories is The Doors- Riders on the Storm... which may explain my affinty for bad poetry and acid...

I didn't discover commercial radio until I was about 12 - growing up I had a steady diet of Radio National (or 2FC as it were), ABC Classic FM and 2MBS-FM. That said, my parents listened to a lot of jazz, folk (Pete Seeger, the Weavers and so on), renaissance music and other slightly odd stuff (my father has a bunch of early Moog albums, for example.) Not sure how that influenced my current tastes, other than that they are eclectic (although I really like there to be a tune in the music somewhere).
