It was all a little bit cloak and dagger the other month when we heard that Stereosonic bound Swede Avicii was aiming some plagiarism claims at UK popper Leona Lewis after her single Collide (allegedly) ripped off his track Fade Into Darkness (also known as Penguin for its Penguin Café Orchestra sample).
With both sides pointing the finger at the other – team Lewis countered saying that Avicii had provided clearance for the reworked version – it was difficult to figure out who was telling the truth and who was concealing stuff. Hopefully that’ll be easier for the English High Court to decipher as it rules on the case brought forward by Avicii and Ministry of Sound this week.
As reported by MTV, Avicii’s camp has filed suit against Lewis and her Simon Cowell-led management for copyright infringement over the track, meaning we’ll be talking about this stupid saga for at least a little longer. If successful, Avicii’s suit would block the September 4th release of Collide and probably make a Avicii a ferociously botoxed enemy in Cowell. Whatever the outcome of the case though, the clear victor will be the Penguin Café Orchestra which will be getting bank either way. Swag.
